Lord of the Rings Online gets free demo. At last...

It's been quite sometime since I reviewed (well, drooled over really) The Lord of the Rings Online MMORPG and shockingly I'm not tired of it just yet. What's more, LotRO has been going from strength to strength, what with expanding its game world, adding new features and vastly improving its PvP/Monster-play bits. Rumors even speak of free hobbit holes too... Oh, and there's a downloadable demo complete with a 7-day free trial period finally available, that will hopefully help you waste your life away. Grab the European version here or the American here.

  1. I noticed it last weekend. I'm waiting for work to slow down to be able to take full advantage of the free trial.

  5. A wise move guttertalk. You'll probably love it... Better stick to the RP servers though...

Indeed Nebachadnezzar... and you'll be on a European server too...

Thank you Elderly dear.. Still working on hobbit penthouses...

No, funnyman, I'm afraid not. These consoles just can't cope with proper MMORPGs...

  6. I really enjoyed Lord of the Rings on the 360, so it is possible to have a RTS game on a console.

  7. Of course it is.... it's memory hungry MMOs like LotRO that are impossible. Besides, it would be a nightmare without a keyboard and mouse...

  8. Damn...the client is 7GB...not only will it take ages to download, but also I only have 5,90 GB free on my HD...

  9. What else can I play if I want to get my Lord of the Ring fix?

  10. Nebachadnezzar, this is the time for heroes... Format, download, install...

Funnyman, all I can think of is Battle for Middle Eart II. Great game, very strategic, lovely graphics...

  11. ..7gb...? looks like we'll be needing those hobbitt penthouses pretty soon... (moves a village of hobbits into a folder on his hard drive.....)

  12. (riotous hobbits manage to break the barricades E authorities have errected and start being hobbity all over the HD)

Well, it's a huge game bristling with detail... So, uh, 7 gigas is decent really. I mean, Bioshock is 6...

  18. Well, you should be able to, even with a modest PC, as long as you got 1 Giga of RAM...

  20. Already own Battle for Middle Earth II on my 360. You have anything else to suggest?

  21. Elderly... :)

Nothing else really dear Funnyman. The arcadey LotRO games were shite and the other good ones are too retro... You wouldn't care for the Hobbit text-adventure, would you?

  22. Judging by the title, I am pressuming Hobbit text-adventure is about Hobbits. Therefore, I will probably dislike that.

  23. Well, it does sort of focus on Bilbo Baggins as it's based on the Hobbit book, so I guess you're right...

  24. I have been playing this since release and it is very addicting.

Yes, it is a memory hog. I thankfully have 2 gigs of ram running in my system. Believe me, they are tired out after a long gaming session. Half way through they start screaming at me. :-)

It really is a great game though. Wonderful graphics. The quest lines are great.

I have already gone through a few guilds though. I haven't found one that I quite like yet.

  25. Never tried any guilds Wakela, though admittedly I detest the idea of in-game socializing, beyong the absolute minimum needed to form a fellowship, and that in RP servers only...

And of course I agree it's a fantastic game that's got the texture of Tolkien's world just righht and much better than this shite gilm could ever hope to.. Unfortunately am bit of down on time currently...
